COACHES, 2024 - 2025

Kat Sakazaki

Coach Kat is from Elk Grove, CA, recently graduated from UC Berkeley, and started playing volleyball when she was 9. She played volleyball for her elementary, middle, and high school as well as for the clubs NCVC and Delta Valley. Kat's coaches were some of the most supportive and influential people in her life, so she hopes to give that back to players now.

I just finished my second season with ABV as the parent volunteer assistant coach and was recently hired as the head coach at El Cerrito HS. I am looking forward to bringing the players and parents together to share the love of volleyball that I have.

Hi, I’m Jessica! I recently graduated from Cal Poly SLO. I’ve played club and school volleyball for about 7 years where I’ve developed skills as a setter, but I’ve also learned a lot from playing other positions as well. Theresa Esparrago Lieu

Theresa Esparrago Lieu started playing volleyball in 7th grade at Albany Middle School. At Albany High, Theresa and the Cougars won multiple league and NCS titles, and helped lead the Cougars to the CIF NorCal finals. Theresa enjoys working with middle school players and hopes to pass on her love for the sport. Outside of volleyball, Theresa works in supporting efforts to make higher education more equitable for CA students.

Lisa Ferrier

Lisa fell in love with volleyball as a freshman in high school at the College Preparatory School in Oakland. In her sophomore year, her team won the NorCal title and went on to the state championship match. As a young person on the volleyball court, Lisa learned incredibly important life skills and values from the sport, and wants to help ABV do the same. Off the court, Lisa is a designer and project manager, working for a leading global architectural firm.

Alma Culverwell

I was a captain of the varsity volleyball team at Albany High School, where I was a setter. I have been playing volleyball for about seven years now. I played one year for Golden Bear and the past three years at Absolute Volleyball Club. I started out in sixth grade playing at ABV and I am so excited to come back and coach at the place where I started.
